SCAM SAFETY GUIDE
Crypto Investment Scam Warning Signs
Investment scams use social media, group chats, dating platforms, or unsolicited messages to promise exceptional returns. A fake dashboard may show profits, but withdrawals are blocked unless more ‘taxes’ or ‘fees’ are paid.
Common warning signs
- Returns are guaranteed or described as nearly risk-free.
- You are directed to a specific unfamiliar app, wallet, exchange, or website.
- A stranger, online friend, or group coach pressures you to act quickly.
- You must pay taxes, verification charges, or unlock fees before withdrawing.
Examples of suspicious wording
‘My strategy guarantees daily profit with no risk.’
‘Your withdrawal is approved after you pay the required tax deposit.’
Wording alone cannot prove a scam. Consider the sender, destination, request, and pressure together.
How to verify it safely
- Do not rely on account balances shown only inside the recommended platform.
- Research the company and registration through the relevant regulator independently.
- Search the exact domain name plus terms such as scam, complaint, and withdrawal.
- Never give remote access, wallet seed phrases, or private keys to anyone.
If you already clicked, paid, or replied
- Do not pay recovery agents or additional withdrawal fees.
- Contact the exchange, bank, or payment provider used to send funds.
- Preserve transaction hashes, wallet addresses, messages, and website details.
- Report the fraud promptly to law enforcement and ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
