How to Spot a Fake Package Delivery Text

Delivery scams claim that a package is delayed, an address is incomplete, or a small redelivery fee is due. The link often leads to a convincing copy of a carrier website built to steal card and personal information.

Common warning signs

  • The message is unexpected or does not include a tracking number you recognize.
  • The web address is misspelled, shortened, or not the carrier’s official domain.
  • A small payment is required to release or redeliver the package.
  • The message threatens an immediate return or disposal of the parcel.

Examples of suspicious wording

‘Your package cannot be delivered due to incomplete address information.’
‘Pay $0.30 today to reschedule delivery.’

Wording alone cannot prove a scam. Consider the sender, destination, request, and pressure together.

How to verify it safely

  1. Do not tap the text link.
  2. Open the carrier’s official app or type its known website address yourself.
  3. Enter the tracking number from your original purchase receipt.
  4. Contact the retailer through the order page if tracking information is unclear.

If you already clicked, paid, or replied

  1. Lock or replace the payment card if you entered its details.
  2. Change any password entered on the fake page.
  3. Watch statements for small test charges and unfamiliar transactions.
  4. Report the text as junk through your phone and to the impersonated carrier.
